MotY Winner 2019 – A Lighthouse at Sonstraam dam
This 1:32 scale working lighthouse is a collaborative project.
The Island was constructed by Colin Rudert and the tower and light-keeper’s residence was constructed by Rudy Maritz.
Working solely via whatsapp, sharing design drawings and measurements, photos and progress reports, the two model builders were able to finish the complete floating lighthouse in 4 months.
The island is drawn via tug to the desired position. A 2,5kg weight is then dropped remotely and the island is anchored into position. The lamp and fog horn is operated via TX.
The lamp reflector cup rotates at 12 rpm, giving an LED emitted beam every 5 seconds.
