While it may be awesome to see in action, not everyone is a match for every type of boat. Commonly speaking, there are three classes of Radio Controlled Model Boats. Speed, Scale and S(n)ail. 🙂 If watching paint dry on a windless day is your thing, you might enjoy admiring your new sail boat as it drifts with the flow of the water. But if you are a speed freak, a yacht race will bore 9 kinds of demons out of your soul and drive you crazy.
Scale boats are somewhat of a compromise; detailed and either slow or fast. It’s your choice.
Racing yachts are like pimples. Most look the same, and everyone has one somewhere. Yet they are cheap to run and will not make you feel “Left out” when your time is up on sail day.
Speedboats are not for the lazy eyed person. You need to concentrate and focus as you run around the markers at speeds in excess of the passing cars. Quick reactions and depth perception is crucial to prevent a collision and probable damage to your boat. But you have a choice of F1, Catamaran or Deep V hulled speedboats.
Steam and Tug Boats are the creepy crawly’s of the seas. They’re not fast, easy to steer, but might be heavy to transport and carry around.
Pleasure Craft and Cabin Cruisers are pretty much in the same category as Tugs, yet somewhat more alive.
Or, do them all.
You will find what works for you once you have tried them all. One thing we do recommend, is that you find a group pf people that likes to turn the boring back and thro into a game or challenge to give your boating experience that extra bit of realism.
