Who we are
Cape Town Scale Model Club is an affiliated model boat club of the Model Boating Association of South Africa, an NPO focused on developing radio controlled model boating as a sport and hobby.

The only person that holds all your personal information is the owner of the club, but health and safety critical information may be used at club meetings and events to ensure your family and medical practitioner is informed in case of emergencies.
What personal data we collect directly and why we collect it?
When you sign up as a member of any class or grade, we collect the following information:
- Your Full Names
- Your SA ID Number
- Your Home Address
- Your Contact Cell Number
- Your Email address
- Your Emergency Contact Person we must contact first
- This person’s Relationship with you, i.e. spouse, doctor, child, “skelmpie”, etc.
- The Emergency Contact Number of the person we must contact first
- Alternative Contact Name and Number in case we cannot reach your first contact person.
We also collect medical information from you, so that we know why you suddenly fell in the water or collapsed in your vehicle. We only use this information to inform medical personnel of your existing conditions if that can help them to save your life.
We also ask you if you can swim, but you are free to lie about it and drown on your own.
Other information we collect via the internet.
Cookies.
Our website uses cookies. Cookies are little strings of text, that helps your computer or mobile phone remember the content of our website. This memory will then be used to load the website again, instead of loading a fresh copy right from the start. Our cookies are Sugar free. 🙂
Newsletters
As a member, you are entitled to receive our newsletters. For this, we use your first name and email address. This is loaded onto a third party platform over which we have no control, and used to send our newsletter from this website, to your email inbox.
SMS notices.
We use BulkSMS operated by Celerity Systems(Pty)Ltd. We use your first name and mobile number to communicate with you via Standard Rated Short Messaging Services (SMS). By replying “STOP”, the system will block any SMS send from us.
Chat apps and Channels
We use Telegram for better functionality to communicate with our members.
We are on Social Media, and using these services are subject to their privacy policies. We do not control them, and have no liability towards you howsoever.
Member Register, Leader Board and Race Results
As part of our Code of Ethical Conduct, Club policies and procedures and Club incentives, we award members for participating in club initiatives, sail days, events, online and in-person activities. From time to time we will publish photos and names of participants in these activities.
In the case of a minor, this will only be done with the express permission of the parent or legal guardian and should this permission not be granted in writing before the publication date of any material, it will be redacted or completely omitted.
Third Party Services
Any service to which the Club or this website subscribe may use certain bits of information in order to function properly. We will not intentionally sell your personal information to third parties. Examples of these include Newsletter vendors, ID Management Systems, and Club Membership Software systems. In all cases, we will provide on request, a copy of or access to the most recent privacy policy of these vendors to any member or affected party.
We do however expressly deny any liability of whatever nature for any personal information released by these third party vendors.
Disclaimer
In all cases of claims for damages due to the use of your personal information for whatever reason, our liability to you shall be limited to R1 000 per event. You accept and agree that by using any of our services and becoming a member to the jurisdiction of the Magistrates Court in Bellville as the competent court.
For the purposes of this policy, the term “you” includes any person who acts on your behalf, whether so instructed or not.
Right to be removed.
Any member or person from who we have collected personal information has the right to ask for it to be removed. Such request must be made via email to the Vice-Admiral.
The effect of such request may include complete removal of some or all club privileges depending on the nature of the request. For example. A request to remove all personal information from our ID management System, will have the effect of a cancelled membership.
Freedom of choice
Since we are not the only club in the Western Cape, you have the freedom to reject our privacy policy and find a club that meets your criteria.
